ACCOMPLISHMENTS
- Leveraged funding to obtain support to create service learning in gender-informed cultural competency for medical students in a community participatory health services disparity reduction project (OWH/DHHS ASIST2010) including Interactive Nutritional Health Intervention (Food Label Interpretation and Exercises) Focused areas include: heart health (HTN/MI/Stroke); Diabetes; cancer reduction; obesity prevention / increased activity; increase intake of fruits/vegetables.
- Gender Health Disparities: Heart Disease; Violence Prevention; Incarceration (Examples of programming include - OSCE case for resident evaluation in heart health and women / collaboration with Delaware Heart Truth to decrease HD in heart disease in women; - Sexual Safety Planning in Partner Violence and Sexual Health; - ‘Missed Diagnosis’ Case of HTN women with CAD risks who has a history of incarceration
- Health professional / health education outreach on cultural competency – to health professionals (Co-Editor of Case Book on Cultural Competency Education) including nursing faculty in cultural competency workshops; to health systems on promoting system change; to patients and community groups to promote self-advocacy while interfacing and accessing health care.
